Additional Training Programs Available in Wilderness Guiding and Lodge Management
After you’ve completed your ESL training, you can further your education by enrolling in other training programs or gaining employment. We train individuals to become wilderness guides. If you prefer working indoors, our Lodge Management Program will train you in cooking, housekeeping, office work, and ranch operations. There are also co-op programs, internships, volunteer positions and even full employment that students can look to move into after their courses.
Several courses such as Wilderness Guide are offered.
Outdoor Adventure Tourism is the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry.
The overall objective of this Program is to provide participants with a solid base of combined working knowledge and practical skills to be a wilderness guide in the guide outfitting industry and adventure tourism.
This builds confidence and character, and enables satisfactory production and performance as entry-level guides within the industry.
Our one and two week programs are intense and designed for individuals intent on learning and developing the basic skills, knowledge and attitudes that are required by a professional guide.
It is designed for those seriously interested in a career within guiding, and is applicable for individuals with specific goals (i.e. lead guide, managing or owning your own Guide Outfitter or adventure tourism business).
The Wilderness Tourism Lodge Management Program is designed to cover every aspect of a wilderness lodge operation from housekeeping to management.
We have divided the program into 3 departments.
The kitchen department covers cooking, serving, housekeeping and wilderness applications.
The office department covers basic administration duties, accounts & reservations and sales & marketing.
The ranch operations department covers maintenance, animal husbandry, natural resources and seasonal operations.
Each department has 4 modules and progresses from entry-level duties to a management level over a course of 6 months.
Each of these modules is divided into 4 weeks training and 2 weeks co-op.
All modules are taught on site at Chilcotin Holidays Wilderness Lodge.
The co-op portion of the program allows the student to get the hands-on work experience that is crucial to gaining employment in the hospitality industry. This is done on site in the “real life” Wilderness Tourism Lodge environment.
Whether your wilderness interests are indoors or out, you’ll walk away with a solid base of combined working knowledge and practical skills and a better comprehension of the English language.
